Research of waste thermoplastics for their subsequent use in the production of building materials

At present, a significant part of the waste generated in the Czech Republic is a large amount of polymer waste that is not processed further and remains unused. Most of this waste is landfilled due to the difficult recycling or further processing due to waste heterogeneity, which does not correspond to the waste management hierarchy.

VIA ALTA company, together with the Technical University of Brno, the Faculty of Chemistry, Institute of Materials Chemistry, is the developer of a research project on the material properties of polymer concrete. As binders, waste thermoplastics or mixtures thereof are used as fillers of crushed construction / demolition waste. Within the project are monitored the processes influencing the utility properties of the final product, the repeatability of the heat treatment of the studied materials, the boundary conditions necessary for the heat treatment technology and their influence on the emissions of the processing process.

The goal of all is to create a competitive composite that will be comparable to conventional composites with its utility properties.
